Volunteer with us

Help a neighbor feel safe at home.

Our volunteers work side by side with IO organizers in clients' homes, or help behind the scenes with events, supplies and outreach.

No organizing experience needed.

Just patience, kindness and a willingness to help.

We review each application individually. Opportunities depend on our current needs.

Working together

What to expect as an in-home volunteer

You'll work alongside one of our lead organizers to help a neighbor make their home work better for them. You don't need professional organizing experience. Patience, respect, and a nonjudgmental attitude go a long way.

A good fit for you and the clientBefore your first visit, we'll check in about the types of sessions and situations that feel comfortable to you. Our lead organizers guide every visit, so you'll never be on your own with a client.

What a typical visit looks like

  1. 1

    Get prepared

Your lead organizer will share important details before the visit so you know what to expect.

  2. 2

    Work together

Help the client sort belongings, organize a space, or create practical systems that work for their needs.

  3. 3

    Encourage progress

Support the client's goals and pace without judgment or pressure to part with belongings.

Privacy matters. Everything you see and hear in a client's home stays private. We'll cover this during onboarding.
