Why we started a home organizing nonprofit

First shared in September 2022, when Impactful Organizing began.

We live in a great community here in Colorado Springs. Neighbors help neighbors, and we always want to find ways to do more.

So we found a way to help in our own way: making home organizing possible for neighbors in the deepest need.

Home organizing as practical relief

It's been a hard couple of years, and a lot of people are drowning in their clutter.

For some of us, clutter is not just clutter. It's an emotional burden. For some neighbors, it holds back their whole life, often with serious consequences.

We wanted to bring professional organizing skills to people who couldn't otherwise get this kind of help. So we created a nonprofit, and we named it Impactful Organizing.

Impactful Organizing is a community-supported nonprofit for emotional well-being through compassionate organizing sessions in Colorado Springs.

Home organizing meets social work

Hi! I'm Meghan Jackson, the founder of Impactful Organizing. My goal is to bridge the gap between generous givers and neighbors in need, using my background as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.

I have a passion for reimagining spaces and believing in the potential of others.

I spent 11 years in social services. My most formative role was at the Department of Human Services, where I built a life skills teaching program, grew community partnerships, and worked with hundreds of people toward their goal of self-sufficiency. In 2019, I started a home organizing business. Once I found my rhythm with clients, I realized the work wasn't so different from social services.

Impactful Organizing brings together my love of giving and of helping people build a peaceful, productive space of their own.

How it started

  • A neighbor wanted to help another neighbor who couldn't afford home organizing.

  • We matched their generous donation.

  • More people came forward asking how they could give through a nonprofit.

What we built first

A group of amazing people volunteered to serve on our Board of Directors. The board oversees the program and brings a wealth of experience to our mission.

We started building partnerships with local social services agencies to find neighbors who were already working toward self-sufficiency and could use our help.

And we became an official nonprofit.

Will you join us?

This all started because a few people saw the needs in our community and wanted to help in a practical way. You can too.
